Material documents Smiley's efforts to establish a women's credit union, her involvement in leadership and management training for women, and her participation in various women's organizations, including the National Women's Political Caucus and the Austin Commission on the Status of Women. Also, material on John Hill, including legal opinions and affirmative action plan issued by his office. Documents pertaining to his unsuccessful gubernatorial campaign include contribution and election forms, correspondence, speeches, clippings, campaign workbook, photos, clippings, and financial data. Flyers and pamphlets from The 200 Texas Women on the Hill Side, an organization formed by Smiley and other women to support Hill's campaign, are also included.
